IDENTITY AND ENVIRONMENT

On previous essays we talked about Identity development, anguishes linked to it and distinguished anguishes regarding sexual identity from the ones that concern sexual life in general./ This essay will be focused on how nature and nurture are intertwine and on how Culture influences Identities nowadays.

What does Identity mean, after all? According to P.A[1] perspective, Identity’s development will be approached from 2 angles: 1) Male and female’s drives in all identity development from birth: affective atmospheres coming from family/carers’, behavioral models and personality traits introjection during childhood, which will impact individuals maturity when searching for authentic tracks in life. 2) Ego’s built-viewed as a moral Instance in charge of guiding interaction (sociability) and of keeping emotional balance. The first angle was developed in previous essays. This Essay will be dedicated to the second one, aiming at scrutinizing our view on Identity developmental issues. Both feminine/masculine drives and affective atmospheres (coming from parents and environment) strike babies and later children’s personalities in a positive or negative way (bringing up creativity or inhibition). Moreover, from 2 years and half on (give it or take) if everything went accordingly to what is biologically expected, organism reaches a pattern of sensorial stability, due to physiological systems conclusion: brain, motricity, digestive and urinary ones and their correlated emotions: satisfaction-coming from satiety, relief-coming from defecation and pleasure tensional discharge- coming from urinating[2]. Stability produces a pattern of regularity (rhythm) that allows psyche to shift energy investment from the internal to the external world, allowing for sociability. From that time on, children start psychological phase, which is marked by interaction and learning skills and roles development. Behavioral Learning offers a sort of concept , values, ideas and convictions menu that children incorporate as a repertoire that gives them a sense of belonging in the world.
